SEH America Vancouver A thousand employees at SEH America grow silicon crystals in a 1.7 million- square-foot manufacturing facility and make them into silicon wafers, the basis of microchips. The products made here are shipped around the world. Founded in 1979, the company has always valued education. The company has developed an in- depth internship program and pays for employees to develop skills and knowledge. “Problem solving, fixing things — I’ve always been good at that,” said Khalid Hassanein, 18, a high school senior and an intern at SEH America in Vancouver. He aspires to become a technician or engineer at SEH. One incentive to come work full-time at SEH America after graduation: the company would pay for his college education. SEH America turns raw polysilicon (upper right, held by training and development specialist Natalie Pacholl) into crystal ingots (above) and then into the silicon wafers that underly the circuitry of our modern world.
