Pomeroy Grain
Pomeroy
The farmers of Garfield County own Pomeroy Grain Growers through a
cooperative. Their Central Ferry site’s barge loader can move 15,000 bushels an
hour, which will fill a barge in 6-8 hours. The soft white wheat will be shipped
by river to Portland, where it is then bound for international markets. The grain
elevator will load 2-3 barges a week while the locks are open.
The outdoor ground pile
at Pomeroy Grain Growers
Central Ferry site (at left and
above right) is 600 feet long
and 200 feet wide, holding 1.8
million bushels of soft white
wheat. The grain elevator
(lower right) is currently home
to another 2.6 million bushels
of wheat in its standing pit.
