This social enterprise manufactures aerospace parts
and teaches job skills to people who have barriers to
employment. Orion is a three-time Boeing Global
Supplier of the Year and has received eight straight
Boeing Performance Excellence Awards. Orion employs
408 people and shipped 1.4 million parts in 2018.

Below: Charles Travis, a machining center technician, has worked at Orion for about five
years, after a career as an EMT. He went through machining training through the Aerospace
Joint Apprenticeship Council and earned his journeyman machinist card. Now he works as a
mentor for the company’s trainees.
Brett Leen has worked at Orion Industries for
28 years, serving as a trainer and mentor for the
people who face barriers to employment that the
facility prepares to enter the workforce. One of
his recent trainees had a stroke, and was working
through rehabilitation to get back to work. “That
ain’t stopping him,” Leen said. His current trainee
“is a rocket,” Leen said. “She’s catching on fast.”
