Built in a sagebrush landscape along the mighty Columbia River in the heart of Washington
wine country, the Ste. Michelle Wine Estates WSU Wine Science Center is a hub for
innovation, education, and collaboration. Built in close collaboration with industry, this is
the largest wine research and education facility in the world.
Tri-Cities business leaders joined the tour for a look at the world’s largest wine research facility,
the Ste. Michelle Wine Estates WSU Wine Science Center. They saw a wine library with vintages
dating back to the earliest days of wine development in Washington, as well as a modern-day
lab where a viticulture and enology graduate student Garrett Lattanzio (at left) was testing the
effects of recent wildfire smoke on wine grapes.
