Port Angeles The Composite Recycling Technology Center turns scrap carbon fiber composite materials from the aerospace industry into a panoply of new products, from park benches to Pickleball sets. Its prototypes go even further, from ultra-light fishing nets to construction beams made from a mix of carbon fiber and wood harvested right here in the Pacific Northwest. With its direct connection to Peninsula Community College, there are a ready supply of energetic employees who are inventing the future, creating new materials out of scrap carbon fiber (lower center right). “I love it,” said Amber Hartman about her job making posts for Pickleball nets from scrap aerospace composite fiber. A Missouri native, she moved to the Olympic Peninsula in March. “I worked at a machine shop back at home with my husband. This is cleaner. I love how everything is so environmentally minded.”
