Engines
221
The chess playing part of this program is separate from, and independent of the
graphical interface. The playing part is called the "chess engine". The engine can be
changed (Menu Tools – Engine), and the interface can support more than one engine
at a time.
You can stage engine matches and engine tournaments.
ChessBase regularly publishes new engines, keeping you completely up-to-date with
the strongest chess playing software in the world.

Other current top engines (October 2013)
Fritz 13
A very strong new version of the program that held classical chess world champion
Vladimir Kramnik to a 4:4 draw in Bahrain in October 2002, and drew against Garry
Kasparov in New York in 2003. Fritz has a large amount of chess knowledge, which
enables it to find good plans and ideas even in positions where there are no tactical
opportunities. The authors are Frans Morsch (Holland) and Mathias Feist (Germany).
Rybka
Rybka, a strong chess program, leads all ranking lists clearly, with ratings well above
Elo 3000. Rybka 3 is here, with a dramatic improvement of at least 80 Elo points.
Rybka, which translates to "little fish", is the shooting star of computer chess and the
reigning world champion,
Houdini
A positionally very strong engine written by Robert Houdart
