PART 2 • The chess tree
• As you see in the illustration above, the chess tree is located just below
the Notation panel in the main Chess King screen. When you click on a
move in the notation, Chess King checks the tree based on GigaKing's
games to see if the position in in the tree. If it is, the Tree panel will
display all of the moves which were played in that position (based
on the games in GigaKing), as well as providing useful statistical
information for each of those moves. For example, the game in the
illustration above started with the moves 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6
4.Bxc6 dxc6. The tree shows all of White's replies in this position based
on the games in GigaKing.
• Please note that we said “all of White's replies in this position” rather
than “all of White's replies to 4...dxc6”. That's because the chess tree
is transpositional, which means that the statistics are based on moves
made from a given position rather than after a certain move order. So,
for example, games which started with a different move order (let's say
1.Nf3 Nc6 2.e4 e5 3.Bb5 a6 4.Bxc6 dxc6) which reached the same
board position are also included in the statistical results.
