PART 2 • Databases First, let's find and load the GigaKing database. Click the large “Games” button in the ribbon, and then click on the GigaKing database from the panel: • When you click “Games” from the ribbon, the panel will show you the databases you've created and imported, as well as the databases which come with Chess King. The number in parentheses after a database's name indicates the number of games which are in that database. (Don't worry if the GigaKing which came with your Chess King program displays a different number of games. Newer versions of Chess King have larger GigaKing databases, since we continually add new games to the database to keep it up to date.) • The most basic form of database search is a header search. The “header” of a chess game in a database contains basic information to identify the game: the player names, the year the game was played, the result of the game; often additional information is included, such as the place a game was played, the opening (“ECO”) code, and even the Elo ratings of the players. When you click on the GigaKing database in the left-hand panel, you'll see a list of games and, at the top of the screen, a box which lets you do the most basic header search: a search for the games of a particular player. 284 chessking.com
