PLAYING A RANDOM GAME Once you've created a new random challenge or loaded one you previously saved, you're ready to play some chess! Playing in Random Game Mode is very much like playing in Quest Mode. Click the green “Go” button to start the game, then make the first move. Just as in Quest Mode, Houdini 4 will be playing a full strength against you – even a material advantage may not be enough to ensure that you win! • When you're playing a random game, Chess King offers you the same hint options as you receive in Quest Games (see Chapter 5 for a full explanation of hints). Remember that hints can cost you some of your earned coins, and that asking for help reduces the amount of experience that you can earn from the game. If you should win or draw the game, Chess King will award you experience points based on the level of challenge and the game's result (win or draw): Remember – the higher the Elo and Level value of the random game you're playing, the more experience points you'll earn for a win! Chess King also keeps track of your record in your saved challenges individually, displaying it alongside the save and load buttons: • The record is given in “W/D/L” format (Wins, Draws, Losses), with the three values separated by slashes. In the illustration we see that the player has a prior record of two draws against Houdini 4 in the challenge which is presently loaded. 223 chessking.com
