Total material – this slider lets you decide how many chessmen will
be on the board, ranging in number from 4 (with the slider set to the
far left, which will create a position in which each player has a King and
one other piece) to 32 (the full compliment of chess pieces for both
players). Note that setting the “Total material” value the whole way to
the right (to a setting of 32) is pretty pointless in random game mode,
since you'll just be setting up the normal starting chess position.
2
Pawn percent – this controls the number of pieces on the board which
will be pawns, based on the value you've set for “Total material”. Note,
however, that the exact number might be rounded off. If you set the
“Total material” to “10” and select “60%” for the pawn percent, you'll
get a position with a total of six pawns. If “Total material” is “12” with
a 60% pawn value, you'll see seven pawns, since 60% of 12 is not a
whole number (Chess King must round the value off).
3
Advantage – the size of the advantage you'll enjoy in the position,
based loosely on the traditional values of the pieces (Pawn=1, Bishop
or Knight=3, Rook=5, Queen=9). Since the slider can be adjusted
by 1% increments, you'll find that Chess King does a fair amount of
rounding off the piece values to achieve an end result.
