PART 2 • Getting help from chess king
...showing the Bishop in question and all of the squares it
controls. The second entry on the list indicates that a Black
Bishop is in a spot where it enjoys little mobility; when Kara
checks that entry, she sees this:
• Every single entry on this long list can be selected, and Chess King will
graphically illustrate that positional idea on the chessboard. To close
the list of positional factors and return to the hint box, click the greenarrowed “Back” button at the top of the list.
• This is a tremendously useful and important feature of Chess King,
especially for intermediate and advanced club players who are learning
positional and strategic ideas as part of their chess studies. As of
this writing, I know of no other chess software program which offers
anything remotely comparable nor nearly as comprehensive as this
“Positional Factors” hint feature in Chess King.
• You can get a lot of useful information from Chess King through the
various hint features displayed in Quest Mode's control panel. Don't
forget, though, that these hints will typically cost you some of your hardwon coins, plus reduce the amount of new coins and experience points
you'll earn from winning the game. You should absolutely try to figure
out a position before asking Chess King for hints, and use these hint
features as sparingly as you can, or else you may find yourself short of
coins in a later game when you really need a hint very badly!
