• In this case, the pawn advance from c7 to c5 isn't much of a “threat”,
but Kara is ahead by so much material and Black has so few options
(his Bishops are blocked, most of his pawns can't freely advance, and
his King is presently out of immediate danger so he doesn't want to
move it) that the pawn advance is really about all Black has here.
On the other hand, when we go back to our Rook example,
Chess King can easily identify White's real threat:
