THE RIBBON
The buttons we've already encountered near the screen's
upper left corner are collectively called the ribbon. Each
button provides access to a variety of Chess King features
which are related to that button's function.
• Clicking the “Train” and “Analysis” buttons changes the list of
commands displayed in the Control Panel (see below). Clicking the
“Games” button changes the entire screen, hiding the chess board
and showing a game list instead.
THE CHESS BOARD
The central feature of Chess King is the chess board
(obviously!), which is where you can play your own games or
replay games you'll find in databases.
1
The chess board shows the current position. A small white or black
square beside the upper right or lower right corner of the board shows
which player's turn it is to move. Chess pieces displayed near the
boards upper right and lower left corners show the material balance,
which indicates who is ahead in material but also (more importantly) the
type of material.
2
Clicking on the two curved arrows near the board's lower left corner
flips the board around, so that you can view the board from the other
player's perspective. For example, you might replay a database game
in which your favorite player had the Black pieces; you can click this
button to flip the board around so that you can see the board the way
your favorite player saw it.
