FATHERS READ IS TURNING PAGES AND SHAPING FUTURES

Mansfield ISD introduced a new tradition this

November with its first-ever Fathers Read initiative . Across the district , fathers , father figures , and mentors visited classrooms and libraries to read to students . The inaugural event took place from Nov . 18 to Nov . 21 , with more than 515 participants showing up , book in hand , ready to inspire and connect with students of all ages .
The idea for Fathers Read originated during the June Board meeting earlier this year when Board Secretary Craig Tipping shared insights from a session he attended at the Texas Association of School Boards conference . Studies show that when fathers and father figures read to children and are more involved in their education , it has a direct impact on academic performance , behavior , and overall achievement . Inspired by this research , the Division of Parents and Family Engagement launched the Fathers Read initiative .
Fathers Read was developed to encourage paternal engagement and reinforce the value of education . When fathers read , they serve as role models , demonstrating the importance of lifelong learning and inspiring children to develop a love for reading . Whether sharing their favorite children ’ s books , reciting poems , or offering life and career advice , the fathers brought something special to every school they visited .
The district ’ s goal is to increase paternal involvement to drive higher student achievement and more favorable educational outcomes . This year ’ s event brought more than 275 fathers and father figures to 20 campuses , leaving a meaningful and lasting impact on students .
As the page turns on this year ’ s event , one thing is clear : when fathers show up , learning becomes brighter — and a lot more fun .
