STUDENTS COLLABORATE WITH INDUSTRIES TO SOLVE PROBLEMS , EARN COLLEGE CREDIT

STEM Academy , a state-of-the-art innovative high school .
“ I ’ ll tell you that this is not your typical high school experience at all ,” Christie Miller said . “ So , if you ’ re looking at coming to Frontier STEM Academy , you ’ re really looking at something different .”
Colby , Miller ’ s oldest son and a senior , has been in a Mansfield ISD STEM program since the sixth grade . He is excited to be in the first Frontier HS graduating class .
At Frontier , students can graduate with more than just a degree . They are given the opportunity to earn college credit through dual credit courses . They also have the chance to earn industryrecognized certificates and professional licensure .
Frontier students also work on Future Forward projects . This is a two-year project where a group of students work with an industry partner to solve a problem . By the end of their project , the group pitches the solution to their industry partner . Future Forward projects provides students the opportunity to collaborate and work with a company from an industry they ’ re interested in .
“ I got into Frontier , and it was life changing to say the least ,” Colby said . “ The highlight has been the integration between the two schools of Frontier and Ben Barber .”
Students at the Frontier STEM Academy can earn college credit , industry-recognized certificates and professional licensure .
Frontier STEM shares a building with the Ben Barber Innovation Academy , a career tech school that is open to MISD high school students . Ben Barber offers courses in engineering , automotive , health science , and more . This allows students to pursue courses that align with their career
interests .
Colby chose the welding and machining career pathway at Ben Barber . Some of the courses offered in that pathway include principles of manufacturing , welding , machining , and robotics .
“ It really helps us get to the career path that we want ,” Colby said . Frontier ’ s mission is to ignite a passion in STEM learners . They accomplish this through collaborative , project-based learning classrooms with hands-on instruction .
