MISD EDUCATION FOUNDATION AWARDS $ 165,000 IN GRANTS
The Mansfield ISD Education Foundation traveled to campuses across the district in December to give away approximately $ 165,000 in grant funds . The Foundation opened its grant application process last summer and received nearly 100 entries . In total , 29 were awarded .
The focus of each grant varied , ranging from engineering to ecology to culinary arts .
Jay Clark and Lisa Amoriello , teachers at the Ben Barber Innovation Academy , were awarded a grant to purchase an espresso machine since a growing number of their students are interested in becoming baristas .
“ We roast coffee beans in our own kitchen , so we ’ re super excited to be able to add this to our list of things that students can do in terms of career readiness ,” Amoriello said .
“ Through strategic community partnerships and individual donations , we are able to give MISD students and staff grants that fund creative and innovative learning opportunities ,” said Lynn Wilkie , Foundation director . “ We love that grant applicants are coming up with engaging ways for students to become career , college , and life ready .”
