BOARD MEMBER PROFILE : KEZIAH FARRAR
What schools did you attend ?
I attended Alice Ponder Elementary , Mary Orr Intermediate , Rogene Worley Middle School , and Mansfield High School .
What is one quote that has become your life ’ s motto ? Why ?
I always go back to the golden rule : Do unto others , as you would have them do unto you . I have never regretted not getting even with someone , or extending grace . I am passionate by nature , but at the end of the day , our kids are watching how we react to situations . I often tell my kids to react , or handle a situation in a way that would make me proud . I have to have the same expectation for myself .
What would be the perfect afternoon for you ?
My perfect afternoon would be going on a hike or a trail run . When the weather is nice , I enjoy being outside . When I throw on my tennis shoes and AirPods , I am a happy girl !
Who was your role model growing up ? Why ?
My dad has always been my role model . After high school , he came the United States from Mexico , to attend college . From there he was able to start a family and fulfill his passion as a teacher and , ultimately , an administrator .
He loved his students , and taught them , and me , that with hard work , anything was possible . He always saw the best in everyone . His life wasn ’ t easy . He was navigating a new country where he didn ’ t know anyone , and English was his second language , but he never let the obstacles discourage him . I am proud to be his daughter .
Give us a brief overview of your career .
Shortly after graduating college , I began a career in real estate . What that has looked like has changed over the years . While I still represent both buyers and sellers with their real estate transactions , my main focus now is managing the commercial real estate that we own .
Why are you passionate about serving MISD ?
I have called Mansfield and MISD home , my entire life . Even in college , I commuted back and forth . The district , and the teachers in it , played such a vital role in the woman I am today . My husband is a graduate from MISD , as is my son Landon . I still have 2 children enrolled in the district , so it is important to me that we continue to provide a strong foundation for all of our students . We do an amazing job of providing them with opportunities to build their knowledge and skills that they need to go out into the world and make a difference . I want that to continue .
