JOURNALISM PLACES IN STATE WITH ALL TIME TOP RECORD
Legacy High School ’ s journalism program has enjoyed remarkable success since its establishment in 2007 . Their online newspaper , The Rider Online , and their yearbook , The Arena , have consistently earned state and national recognition over the years . The 2023-24 school year holds special significance as both the newspaper and yearbook have been awarded Gold Stars from University Interscholastic League ( UIL ). This marks the first time in the newspaper ’ s history to achieve a Gold Star , a Gold Crown from Columbia University , and a Pacemaker from National Scholastic Press Association .
In UIL Academics , Legacy High School has clinched victories at the district and regional levels in Journalism , then placed fourth in state competition . UIL Academic events are limited to three participants per event . Students compete in news , feature , editorial , headline writing along with copy editing .
Raylee Mallett , a student from Legacy High School , has been honored with the title of Yearbook Editor of the Year from UIL / ILPC . She was recognized at this year ’ s Interscholastic League Press Conference ( ILPC ) State Convention .
The Legacy journalism program boasts more than 60 publication staff members , with over 50 students enrolled in introductory classes . These introductory classes include Journalism 1 and Photojournalism 1 . Upon completion of these classes , students have the opportunity to enroll in additional courses such as yearbook , newspaper , advanced photography , or broadcast .
JROTC SECURES FIRST NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP WIN

O across the nation , including Army , Navy , Air Force , and Marine JROTC programs , Mansfield High School ’ s Storming Tigers Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps achieved first place in the Armed Division of the Army JROTC National Drill Championships . Additionally , the team secured second place in the Division 2 Unarmed Category at the All-Service Nationals Competition .

This marks the Mansfield High School team ’ s first national championship win at the National Drill Championship .
