PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATIONS ( PTA ) NAMES HONORARY LIFE MEMBERSHIP AWARD RECIPIENT
STUDENT OFFERS SUPPORT TO PEERS STRUGGLING WITH MENTAL HEALTH
Hope Squad is a school-based peer-to-peer support program aimed at helping students who may be struggling or at risk of self-harm .
At Lake Ridge High School , students are peer-nominated to join Hope Squad . Danielle Alvarado was one of the students selected for the program . During her junior year , she became vice president of the newly formed squad . Her responsibilities included fostering an environment focused on mental health awareness and suicide prevention .
“ Through various initiatives , I witnessed firsthand the transformative effects of simply being present and offering support to those in need ,” Alvarado said .
Alvarado ’ s dedication to Hope Squad inspired her to apply for the National Hope Squad Council . This council consists of passionate Hope Squad student members from across the United States , all working towards promoting mental health and preventing suicide among their peers . Selected through a rigorous application process , National Council members support local squads , record welcome messages , answer common questions , and participate in virtual panels and in-person conferences .

n May 16 , the MISD Council of
O Parent Teacher Associations ( PTA ) held their annual luncheon and awards ceremony . They celebrated PTAs and PTSAs from all elementary , intermediate , middle , and high schools .
During the ceremony , they awarded Superintendent Dr . Kimberley Cantu with the Honorary Life Membership Award . The Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership Award is one of the highest forms of PTA honors .
Dr . Cantu demonstrates that day in and day out .
Dr . Cantu was named MISD ’ s superintendent on Dec . 17 , 2019 , becoming the second female superintendent in the district ’ s history . She is passionate about preparing students to become college , career , and life ready through her Vision 2030 plan .
