MISD FINE ARTS STUDENTS RECEIVE STATE’ S HIGHEST HONORS

Congratulations to the 13 Mansfield ISD fine arts students selected to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association( TMEA) Clinic and Convention in San Antonio in February. The eight band students and five choir students were named All-State musicians, which, according to TMEA, is the highest honor a student can receive.

“ We are proud of our students who have proven that with passion, hard work and determination, they can achieve their highest goals,” MISD Fine Arts Director Dr. Darwert Johnson said.“ We commend our band and choir directors and private lesson staff for guiding these students in their pursuit of excellence.”
The young musicians underwent multiple rounds of auditions to qualify as All-State musicians. Beginning each fall, more than 70,000 high school students across the state audition in their TMEA region. A select group advances to compete at the area level.

• Adonis Castillo, Percussion, Mansfield
• Arturo Ibarra, Bass 2, Mansfield
• Roxye Pierce, Soprano 2, Mansfield
• Cameron Powell, Bass 2, Mansfield
• Nadia Korfe, Soprano 1, Lake Ridge
• Mia Martin, Soprano 1, Lake Ridge
The highest-ranking musicians from the area contest— typically fewer than 2,000 students statewide— qualified to perform in an ensemble in TMEA’ s band, orchestra or vocal divisions. Those performances took place during the second week of February at the annual TMEA Clinic / Convention at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio.
