SUMMIT BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM WINS FIRST STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN SCHOOL HISTORY

Congratulations to the Summit Jaguars boys basketball team for bringing home the basketball program’ s first state championship in school history. On Saturday, March 8, the Jaguars defeated Fort Bend Marshall 54-47 in the UIL Class 5A Division II State Championship at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Two years ago, the Jaguars reached the state semifinal, where they fell to Killeen Ellison. This year, a semifinal victory over Ellison avenged that loss for returning players.
“ I just know it’ s a lot of hard work— I think about the kids and the work they put in,” head coach Emund Prichett said.“ I know these kids care about each other. We showed people what teamwork can do and what believing in each other can do.”
Summit High School Principal Jason Mutterer has spent his entire 23-year education career at Summit, including 15 years as head basketball coach. For him, the win is especially meaningful.
“ I am so proud of our boys basketball players and coaches for bringing a state championship back to our community and to those who wore a Summit jersey before them,” Mutterer said.“ They are not only champions on the court but off the court as well.”
“ It’ s that real moment, like it’ s real. It’ s just hard work showing up in my testimony.”
