LAKE RIDGE BOYS BASKETBALL
The Timberview High School girls ’ basketball team finished second in the state after falling to Frisco Liberty in the 5A State Championship game .
Head coach Kit Martin and her team were ranked number one by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches throughout the season that ended with a record of 40-2 . The Timberview Lady Wolves have a history of excellence , and this was the team ’ s sixth trip to states in 16 years .
The Lake Ridge High School boys ’ basketball team won its first state tournament berth in the school ’ s 12-year history . The team takes on Plano East in the class 6A semifinal round on Fri ., March 8 at 7 p . m . in San Antonio . This is coach Cornelius Mitchell ’ s first year to coach the Lake Ridge team after previously coaching in the district at Legacy High School .
SWIMMING & DIVING
Mansfield High School senior Elise Clift earned second place in the 500-meter freestyle at the 2024 UIL Swimming and Diving State meet . Clift earned her silver medal with a time of 4:48.41 .
The meet was held Feb . 23-24 at The University of Texas at Austin . Students from across Texas — including 30 from MISD — qualified for the state meet automatically by either finishing in the top two places in their regional heat or through call-ups by having one of the next eight fastest times across all regions .
