“ Dot Day sets our students up for a year of creativity and shows them that they can trust themselves to make artistic choices .”

STUDENTS BUILD CONFIDENCE ON DOT DAY

It ’ s important that students learn how to make their mark , and that ’ s why elementary campuses across the district celebrate Dot Day every Sept . 15 . Students are dressing up in dots , creating art with dots , and learning the importance of self-confidence .

The day is inspired by the children ’ s book “ The Dot ” by Peter H . Reynolds . In the book , a caring art teacher encourages her student to trust their own abilities by being brave enough
to draw one dot . With each drawing , the student grows her confidence and courage .
“ As art educators , we see so much perfectionism that stops our students from enjoying the art making process ,” said Charlotte Anderson Preparatory Academy art teacher Jessica Smith . “ Dot Day sets our students up for a year of creativity and shows them that they can trust themselves to make artistic choices .”

“ Dot Day is important for our Brockett sculptures , experiment with tiedye and watercolor techniques , and more .
Also , several campuses participated in collaborative art projects in honor of Dot Day . For
example , more than 600 uniquely decorated circles cover the walls at DP Morris Elementary . Anderson Preparatory Academy students made
Lions to participate in because it signifies the importance of the individual student , builds confidence , and promotes that , in a collaborative setting , they can achieve anything ,” said Brockett Elementary School art teacher Sarah Grob .
Overall , Dot Day gives students the opportunity to flex their art abilities and build their confidence . These skills are leading learners to become college , career and life ready .
To get ready for Dot Day , Smith ’ s students do a loose , open-ended art project that is intended to teach them to embrace the process . Other campuses are encouraging
