MISD Gets Community Input to Create Safer Schools
I
n light of news about school shootings
throughout the nation, safety remains
at the top of mind for Mansfield ISD
administrators.
The day after the Parkland shooting,
the MISD leadership team visited each
MISD campus to see if staff members
were okay, if they had any concerns
about students and if the doors and locks
were working.
Superintendent Dr. Jim Vaszauskas then
held three community meetings in April
to address the district’s safety measures
and give the public an opportunity to
provide valuable feedback.
Superintendent Dr. Vaszauskas hosted one of his safety meetings through
Facebook Live to address the community’s concerns.
All of the input from the community was used to form a district safety committee, consisting of students, staff
members, parents and community members. The goal of the committee is to create a new safety plan that will enhance
the district’s current one.
The safety recommendations will be presented to the school board. Once the trustees make a final decision, students
and staff will be thoroughly trained on the different safety procedures and scenarios for the 2018-19 school year.
At Mansfield ISD, we’re committed to keeping our schools safe.
