The half-day, tuition-based classes will be held at three MISD elementary schools. TUITION-BASED PRE-K STARTING IN AUGUST 2019 P arents of 4-year-olds within Mansfield ISD will soon have more opportunities for their child’s education. A tuition-based pre- kindergarten (pre-K) program is coming to Mansfield ISD for the 2019-20 school year. Cobb said the half-day classes will follow the district’s experience-based curriculum and will offer the same high-caliber staff members. “Each class will have a capacity of approximately 18 students, equipped with a certified teacher and a teacher’s aide,” Cobb continued. “As students learn through explorative play, they will also be provided a foundation for language and social skill development.” By creating the program, MISD is staying aligned with its guiding statements of creating more educational opportunities for MISD families and having students reading on level or higher by the beginning of third grade and remaining on level or higher as an MISD student. The fee-based pre-K classes will be housed at J.L. Boren Elementary School, Roberta Tipps Elementary School and Annette Perry Elementary School. The morning session is from 8 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. Afternoon sessions are 12:20 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Meals will be provided for each session. “We believe in our curriculum, and we believe that what we are doing for these ages is working,” said Kristi Cobb, director of early literacy. “We’re starting fee-based pre- kindergarten classes to expose even more children to our educational programs and fill a need for those who may not qualify for our free pre-kindergarten program.” During the application process, parents and guardians can choose the location and session of their choice. No MISD bus transportation will be provided. MISD’s tuition-based pre-kindergarten program will be for children who are 4 years of age on or before Sept. 1 of the current school year and who are not eligible for the Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) or the free federally-funded pre-kindergarten program. The tuition-based pre-K application window for the 2019-20 school year is Jan. 9 through Feb. 8. To apply or receive more information about the new program, visit www.mansfieldisd.org/prek.
