TWO MISD STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN
ALL-AMERICAN TITLES

egacy High School’s Jeffery
Carter and Mansfield High
School’s Molly Phillips have
been recognized as some of
the best players in the nation.
Carter, a football cornerback,
was named an All-American
Under Armour athlete.
According to ESPN, Carter is
nationally ranked fourth in
his position and 37th overall
in football.
The Texas A&M University
commit was part of the top
100 football players in the
nation to compete at Camping
World Stadium in Orlando,
Florida on Jan. 3. The game
was televised live on ESPN2.
Phillips, a volleyball middle
blocker, was one of only 24
Texas players to be selected
as an Under Armour All-
American in the sport. She
made the second team out of a
record 793 nominations.
Phillips is one of the top
players in the area as a senior,
recording 768 kills, 479 digs
and an average of 5.6 kills per
set.
The University of Texas at
Austin commit was also named
to the 2018 PrepVolleyball
All-America First Team
and played on the USA U20
Women’s National Team in
2018.

as a 2018-20 National
PTA School of
Excellence. The award
is given to parent-
teacher associations
(PTAs) that have
demonstrated a strong
dedication to family
engagement to enrich
the educational
experience.

PTAs that receive
the recognition have
made a year-long
commitment in identifying
and implementing an action
plan for school improvement
based on the national
standards for family-school
partnerships.
Those standards include
welcoming all families
into the school community,
communicating effectively,
supporting student success,
speaking up for every child,
sharing power and

Mansfield High School
also targeted the
compassion efforts of
its students, staff and
parents as its goal to
build a family-friendly
environment. Through
fundraisers, student
community service
projects and major
pushes to support those
who are battling cancer,
that goal was achieved.
A total of 279 PTAs
across the country were
awarded the National PTA
School of Excellence this
year. Last year, Cora Spencer
Elementary School received
the designation.
