MANSFIELD ISD TOYS FOR TOTS DRIVE
BRINGS IN MORE THAN 27,000 TOYS
T
he Mansfield ISD community displayed
its tremendous generosity once again by
donating more than 27,000 toys and nearly
$7,000 for children who are less fortunate.
Event coordinators said the outpouring from the
community is nothing short of amazing.
“Our MISD family is pretty big, and they have
a big heart. We love doing
this event,” said Flo Torres,
director of the MISD Center
for the Performing Arts. “You
can see so many families
and so many kids—from
performing to helping to
volunteering—and it just lets
you know the generosity of
the entire MISD community.
We’re a community who
loves to help others.”
MISD’s seventh
annual Toys for Tots
Community Drive, one
of the largest in the
state, was held Dec. 5
at the MISD Center for
the Performing Arts.
Thousands of people
came with donations
and stayed for the
many festivities.
Some of the biggest
attractions were the
pony rides, snow hill
rides, petting zoo,
kiddie train, photos
with Santa Claus,
games and crafts.
Students from various
campuses also held
crowd-gathering
performances
throughout the
evening.
Thousands of people attend MISD’s Toys for Tots
event to give back and experience the fun.
Toys for Tots is a program
founded in 1947 by the U.S.
Marine Corps Reserve. The
program’s mission is to
collect new, unwrapped toys
during October, November
and December each year and
distribute those toys as gifts
to children in the community
who otherwise would not
receive a present.
MISD has donated more than
170,000 toys to the cause so
far. The district partners
with the U.S. Marine Corps
Reserve and FOX 4 News to
make the Toys for Tots drive memorable for all.
Prior to the big event,
MISD campuses
and departments
encouraged students and staff to give to the
cause by holding all sorts of contests.
