Innovation Academy and
Frontier High School
B
en Barber Innovation Academy (BBIA) allows
students to get a jumpstart on their college
and career choices. The school gives students an
opportunity to earn an industry-recognized certificate,
professional licensure and college hours in their
desired area of study.
The school offers more than 13 programs, including
culinary arts, law, health science, engineering, audio/
visual technology and more. Students from all
Mansfield ISD high schools have the opportunity to
attend BBIA in morning and afternoon sessions that are
project-based.
A
Lake Ridge High School student-athlete has been recognized as one of the
best 24 high school volleyball players in the nation.
Capri Davis was selected as a first team player in the 2017 Under Armour
All-America Volleyball Match. More than 620 nominations were received for
consideration.
“I’m so blessed to have been selected to the All-America team,” said Davis upon
hearing the news. “I’m excited for the opportunity and thankful for the coaches
and teammates who have helped build me into the player I am today.”
As a first team selection, Davis had the opportunity to showcase her skills at the
national match on Friday, Dec. 15 in Kansas City, Missouri. The senior said the
experience will help her as she enters into her freshman season of college. She is
committed to attend the University of Nebraska on a volleyball scholarship.
The 12th annual Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match was hosted by the
American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
AVCA selected 150 All-America and Honorable Mention All-Americans. Only the first
team players are invited to play in the national volleyball match.
MISD Choir Invited to Perform with
Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra
Between our student-run businesses, job shadowing,
internship opportunities and industry certifications, our students get the real-world experience required to discover if
they like or dislike a field of interest,” said Principal Catherine Hudgins. “We love that we can help students narrow
their career options.”
MISD juniors and seniors can choose to be fully immersed
in their program of study and enroll in Frontier High School,
located at the same campus.
“Frontier High School is a unique environment. Students have
smaller class sizes, advanced technology and an opportunity to
participate in a senior project where they create and present a
product related to their program of study,” she continued.
Because of the many opportunities provided, more than 10,300
students currently attend BBIA classes. Frontier High School
has an enrollment of 171 students. Registration for Ben Barber
Innovation Academy and Frontier High School opened in
November.
Volleyball Player Chosen for
Under Armour All-America Team
S
tudents from Summit High School’s Jaguar Chorale took the stage with the acclaimed Fort Worth Symphony
Orchestra (FWSO) for the orchestra’s annual “Home for the Holidays” concert.
Officials from FWSO reached out to Summit High School’s choir director, Keli Ferrier, after seeing photos and
videos of the choir on social media. The choir students then performed for program organizers in a short audition and
received an official invitation to join the orchestra for the holiday program.
“We are thrilled to have been chosen for this honor and were very excited for the big event,” said Ferrier. “We have
not taken for granted how lucky we are to have been given the opportunity to do a showcase performance on the Bass
Hall stage.”
FWSO’s “Home for the Holidays” took place Nov. 24-26 at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth.
The Summit High School choir is one of four local groups requested to perform. Students in the mixed varsity choir
have been preparing for the event since August.
