MISD Toys for Tots Event Brings in
Record-Breaking Donations
t was another record-breaking year for the Mansfield ISD
Toys for Tots event. The community came together and
collected more than 31,000 toys and $7,350 in donations
for children who would have otherwise went without this
holiday season.
MISD students have toys in hand to give to a Marine.
The fifth annual MISD Toys for Tots event, held on Dec. 7,
brought in a large crowd of people who came with donations and stayed for the fun
activities. Some of the attractions were the sledding hill, an appearance from Santa, a
kiddie train, a petting zoo and bounce houses.
Campuses and departments held several contests to encourage students and staff to
give to the cause. Local businesses also showed a tremendous amount of generosity.
“There are not enough words to say how appreciative we are to everyone who
contributed to the Toys for Tots drive. It’s overwhelming to realize how many
people pitched in for the greater good,” said Jeanne Cassidy, sales and marketing
coordinator at the MISD Center for the Performing Arts. “From the local businesses
to the schools to the parents, we thank everyone for giving up their time and
resources to make sure this event continues its tradition of giving and fun.”

before competing in the annual mascot race.
Toys for Tots was founded in 1947 and is run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. The
program’s goal is to spread a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will
assist them in becoming responsible, productive and patriotic citizens.
The number of toy donations received for MISD Toys for Tots has continually
increased since its inception in 2012. In its first year, 16,000 toys were given. Last
year, 30,000 toys were collected.
The night was filled with student
performances from different schools
and grade levels.
Event organizers said they are happy about setting a new record, but they are more
focused on instilling the spirit of giving throughout the community.
The Summit High School Sapphires,
along with other drill teams, helped
organize the toys at the end of the night.
