Board Approves New Early Literacy Center
M
ansfield ISD is in the early stages of constructing a new early literacy center. The concept was approved
by the board of trustees at the regular board meeting on Nov. 15.
The center is set to open in August 2018 and will serve 3- and 4-year-old pre-kindergartners and
Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) students. It will be located near Della Icenhower
Intermediate School.
The purpose of the center is to improve the school readiness of young children using creative, hands-on,
interactive experiences within a research-based early childhood program.
District administration said the early literacy center aligns perfectly with one of MISD’s Vision 2020
guiding statements, which states that students will read on level or higher by the beginning of the third
grade and will remain on level or higher as an MISD student.
