Revision to the MISD 2015-16 Calendar
U
nder new state law, the school year is now counted as 75,600 minutes rather than 180 days. Changing
the way the school year is measured is meant to give districts more flexibility in how they make up for
missed instructional days.
With collaboration from the Mansfield ISD District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) and approval
from the MISD School Board, the following changes have been made to the 2015-16 calendar to better fit
the needs of the district:
• April 15 is now a student holiday (full day) and employee professional development day (full day). It was
previously an early release day and staff development day.
• June 1 is now the last day of school for students (full day).
• June 2 is now a Teacher Work Day.
• June 3 will remain as a Teacher Work Day.
• April 15 will continue to be designated as Bad Weather Day #2, although bad weather days will likely not
be needed under the new structure.
“By making these changes, we would still be well within the 75,600 minute requirement, but we think it
would make our calendar flow a little bit better,” said Superintendent Dr. Jim Vaszauskas.
The revised 2016 calendar can be found on the MISD website.
