MISD EARNS NINTH CONSECUTIVE ENERGY STAR AWARD

Mansfield ISD has once again earned one of the highest recognitions given by the U . S . Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA ). The district received the 2022 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year — Sustained Excellence Award .

The Partner of the Year Award is given to entities that perform at a superior level of energy management and prove organization-wide energy savings . The Sustained Excellence designation is given to organizations that have already received ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year recognition for a minimum of two consecutive years .
This is the ninth year MISD has won the Partner of the Year and the seventh year the district has held its Sustained Excellence distinction .
Since the start of the MISD Energy Management Program in 2012 , MISD has achieved a cost avoidance of approximately $ 16.9 million in water , electricity and natural gas costs . The district ’ s conservation efforts have prevented carbon dioxide emissions by 65,456 metric tons , an amount equivalent to about 13,637 cars being driven for a full year .
“ Our partnership with ENERGY STAR began over a decade ago ; and since then , it ’ s paid off through increased efficiency , lower utility bills and a smaller carbon footprint ,” said Kelly Campbell , MISD energy conservation specialist .
“ We ’ ve been able to take a supportive staff and a quality program and multiply its effectiveness through that partnership . This recognition only further drives home the idea that we ’ re on the right track and continue to move in the right direction , being better stewards of the taxpayer dollars and the Earth .”
In addition to the award , MISD has earned more than 300 ENERGY STAR building certifications since 2006 , more than any other school district in the state .
The MISD Energy Management Program also educates students and families about the importance of turning off lights , closing doors and turning off water to promote conservation and sustainability .

MISD NAMED BEST COMMUNITY FOR MUSIC EDUCATION

Mansfield ISD has a nationally renowned fine arts program , and the district was recently named one of the top places in the country for music education .

MISD was honored with the 2022 Best Communities for Music Education designation from the National Association of Music Merchants ( NAMM ) Foundation .
It is given to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students .
In addition to honoring communities with an exceptionally high commitment to music education , this year ’ s award celebrated schools and districts adapting , innovating and persevering in the face of change .
“ It is a great honor and privilege ,” said Dr . Darwert Johnson , MISD ’ s director of fine arts . “ The district , staff , students and the community have been great partners of the arts ; and it is refreshing to see their appreciation of the arts be recognized on the national level . We have such an amazing community , stakeholders , staff and district leaders in Mansfield ISD , and this recognition wouldn ’ t be possible without their dedication to our music programs .”
To qualify for the Best Communities designation , districts answer detailed questions about funding , graduation requirements , music class participation , instruction time , facilities , support for the music program and community music-making programs . Responses are then verified and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas .
The Best Communities for Music Education program is in its 23rd year . A total of 738 school districts and 80 schools across 44 states were recognized with the distinction in 2022 .
