STUDENTS WIN MEDALS AT STATE TRACK AND FIELD MEET
Students from all of Mansfield ISD ’ s high school track and field programs represented at the UIL 2022 Track and Field State Meet on May 13 and 14 in Austin .
After the final heat , 12 MISD studentathletes took home state medals for top finishes in their event .
The Timberview High School girls 4x100 relay team took home the gold medal for the 5A conference . The members of the state-winning team are Princess Miller , Adriane Nwonumah , Norah Nwonumah and Lola Mabon . Timberview High School ’ s girls track team also earned enough points to finish in second place overall in the conference .
Legacy High School ’ s Christine Mallard came home with a gold and silver medal . She finished first in
The Timberview High girls team won second place overall .
Lake Ridge High ’ s 4x400 boys relay finished with silver medals .
the 5A 400-meter race and second place in the 200-meter race .
Lake Ridge High School ’ s 4x400 boys relay team took home a silver medal in the event . Jayden Blakey , Jacob Alexander , Chris Akins and Dominic Byles are the members of that state runner-up relay team . Timberview High School ’ s Taylor Fingers earned a silver medal in long jump as well .
Bronze medal winners included Mansfield High School ’ s Nathan Breese and Timberview High School ’ s Glennis Woolridge . Breese earned the medal in the 400-meter wheelchair event . Woolridge earned her third-place finish in shot put .
SCHOLARS EARN TOP SPOTS AT UIL STATE CONTESTS
Students from Mansfield High School and Legacy High School came out on top in their categories at the University Interscholastic League ( UIL ) academic and journalism contests .
Mansfield High School ’ s UIL academic team took home a gold medal in Current Issues and Events . The team members are Johnathan Dang , Jackson Harris , Keelie Jones and Claire Speakes . Harris also took home a bronze medal for his individual event .
The academic state contest took place on May 6 in Austin , and only five teams qualified for the state level .
At UIL ’ s Interscholastic League Press Conference ( ILPC ), which occurred May 7-8 in Austin , Legacy High School ’ s journalism team earned two Silver Stars for the school ’ s student yearbook and newspaper publications . Recipients of the Star Awards represent the top 10 % of student newspapers and yearbooks in Texas .
The members of the Legacy High journalism team are Blake Hinerman , Nic Pixler , Jonah Pedroza , Abigail Morris , Zeina Halili , Keri Brown and Raylee Mallett .
Legacy High journalism students also won 38 individual awards for the 2021 yearbook and 2022 online newspaper at the state journalism convention .
Mansfield High ’ s team was named regional and state champs in Current Events and Issues .
