Two Mansfield ISD graduates have now earned the title of being named the district ’ s 2021 teachers of the year . The teachers were chosen based on their excellence in teaching and positive impact in the lives of their students and staff members .

Hadley Brown , a first grade teacher at Roberta Tipps STEAM Academy , was selected as the Elementary Teacher of the Year .
Anthony Sheppard , a U . S . history teacher and football coach at Lake Ridge High School , was named the Secondary Teacher of the Year .
Brown is an MISD alumna and wanted to reinvest in the district that made a profound impact on her . She is in her sixth year of education .
The Texas native said her mission is to enrich students ’ lives and ensure they have the opportunity , tools and readiness to succeed .
“ I went to Mansfield schools , I love the Mansfield community , so I just want to give back any way I can ,” she said . “ I love coming into work every day to teach these young minds , and I ’ m honored to receive this award .”
Brown obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology from The University of Rochester and a Master
of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Texas at Arlington .
Superintendent Dr . Kimberley Cantu ( middle ) commended Brown ( left ) and Sheppard ( right ) for their achievement .
Sheppard believes that he is an effective teacher and coach because of his positive influence on young people ’ s values , interests and character .
He attended MISD since elementary school and graduated from Mansfield High School . The educator is in his 17th year of teaching and attributes his success to the teachers he had who poured into him and encouraged him .
“ I ’ m just doing what the teachers I had did to me ,” he explained . “ They saw my potential and believed in me . I hope I can do the same for my students .
Sheppard added that he wants students to understand how a diverse population fits into the bigger world picture and how each of them can contribute .
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from The University of Texas at El Paso and his teaching certification from The University of Texas at El Paso ’ s alternative certification program .
Every year , staff members at each of MISD ’ s campuses nominate the teacher they feel has done a stellar job at displaying excellence in education .
Two of those campus winners are then selected by a committee to become the elementary and secondary district teachers of the year .
Brown and Sheppard discovered they won the distinction at the MISD 2021 Employee Award Reception , which was held May 13 .
They will go on to compete in the Education Service Center Region XI Teacher of Year competition and could potentially advance to compete for Texas Teacher of the Year .
