Mansfield ISD Earns Third
Consecutive ENERGY STAR Partner
of the Year Award
F
or the third consecutive year, Mansfield ISD
has won the ENERGY STAR Partner of the
Year Award, which qualified the district for the
ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award.
MISD is the only school district in Texas this year
to earn that distinction.
The Partner of the Year Award is the highest
level of recognition by the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA). The award is given to
organizations that perform at a superior level of
energy management and prove organization-wide
energy savings.
Since the start of the MISD energy management
program in 2012, the district has saved more than
$5.2 million in water, electricity, and natural gas
costs. The district’s carbon dioxide emissions have
been reduced by nearly 20,000 metric tons.
The program also educates students and families
about the importance of turning off lights, closing
doors, and turning off water to promote conservation
and sustainability.
“I am very excited that the district has been
named ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for the
third straight year,” said Jeff Brogden, associate
superintendent of facilities and bond programs.

of all MISD staff members to make a difference not
only monetarily, but also environmentally. We couldn’t
have done it without everyone’s commitment.”
MISD has earned 261 ENERGY STAR building
certifications since 2006, more than any other school
district in the state.
The ENERGY STAR awards ceremony took place
on Wednesday, April 13 in Washington, D.C. As
part of an incentive to participate in MISD’s energy
program, two teachers and their principals were
selected in a drawing to travel to the ceremony with
the MISD energy team, Board President Dr. Michael
Evans, and Superintendent Dr. Jim Vaszauskas.
