ansfield ISD is proud to announce
the two teachers who have earned the
honor of being named the district’s 2016
Teachers of the Year.
Congratulations to the Elementary Teacher of

Teacher of the Year, Julia Stephen.
Adelina Castillo (left) and Julia Stephen (right) received their award and
took a picture backstage with Board President Dr. Michael Evans.
Castillo is a reading specialist at Alice Ponder
Elementary School. She has been teaching for
20 years and joined Mansfield ISD in 2009. She said
she is in disbelief to be recognized in such a manner.
“I am shocked and pleased that everything I’ve done
in the past 20 years has been effective enough to say
that I am worthy of this,” said Castillo. “I just love
to teach.”
Castillo and Stephen were formally recognized
at the MISD Employee Award Banquet on
Monday, May 9. They will go on to compete in the
Education Service Center Region XI Teacher of
Year competition and could potentially advance to
compete for Texas Teacher of the Year.
The process to become MISD’s Teacher of the
Year begins by winning at the campus level as the
teachers are voted for by their peers based on their
hard work and excellence in teaching and leadership.
Julia Stephen is a seventh grade science teacher
at Brooks Wester Middle School. She has been in
education for 14 years and began her service at MISD
in 2009. The science teacher said she is overwhelmed. From those 43 winners, a committee selects three
