TIMBERVIEW BOYS BASKETBALL FINISH AS STATE RUNNER-UPS

In an effort to secure a fourth state championship title , the Timberview High School boys basketball team headed to the UIL state tournament .

The team beat Boerne Champion in the semifinals round . To win it all , the boys played against Beaumont United in the 5A state finals game on March 12 . The Wolves played a hard-fought four quarters , but they fell short of winning the championship game . They ended the season as the state runner-ups .
“ In Texas , you have to win seven games to win the state championship . In Oklahoma , you have to win three . It really speaks to what these guys have accomplished .”
This is the fourth time in six years that the Wolves have advanced to the state tournament . They won state titles in 2017 , 2019 and 2020 .
The 2021-22 season is the last season that will be led by head coach Duane Gregory . He announced his retirement , which will be effective at the end of the school year .
“ It ’ s difficult in Texas to win your region and advance to the state tournament . It ’ s even more difficult to win a state championship ,” said Philip O ’ Neal , executive director of athletics .
The UIL state tournament was held in San Antonio at the Alamodome .

MISD PARTNERS WITH RANGERS TO GET STUDENTS HEALTHY

As kids are spending more and more time looking at screens and staying indoors , a new district partnership is hoping to get children moving again .

The Health and Fitness All-Stars Program , sponsored by the Texas Rangers and Medical City Healthcare , offers a series of instructional videos
Students were excited to meet Captain and hear about the fun fitness lessons . designed to supplement the fifth-grade physical education curriculum and motivate kids to maintain a physically and mentally healthy lifestyle .
The program recently rolled out for the after-school care programs at all Mansfield ISD intermediate schools . With the instructional material provided , the after-school instructors will incorporate different activities emphasizing fitness , healthy eating , hygiene and mental wellness .
To help launch the program , a health rally was held at Della Icenhower Intermediate School on March 2 . The students were surprised with a special appearance from Captain , the mascot for the Texas Rangers .
“ We really wanted to excite our students and give them a preview of the curriculum they will be participating in ,” said Tina Cantu , director of MISD ’ s outof-school time programs . “ Our district does a great job on the importance of healthy lifestyles and making sure that our students understand how creating these lifestyles now will definitely carry over to when they ’ re adults .”
To reward the participants , a boy and a girl from each campus who exemplifies a commitment to fitness and wellness will be selected to receive some prizes , ranging from a Rangers T-shirt and hat to tickets to a Texas Rangers home game .
