NEARLY 100 STUDENT-ATHLETES SIGN TO PLAY IN COLLEGE

It was a moment that has been years in the making for 93 Mansfield ISD students . With the support of their loved ones and coaches and a pen in tow , they signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic career at the collegiate level .

National Signing Day is held annually on the first Wednesday in February . At Mansfield ISD , it ’ s a time to celebrate all the high school studentathletes who have received scholarships to further themselves in their sport . The studentathletes made their commitment in front of a cheering crowd .
The satisfaction of achieving something together is a sentiment many of the student-athletes shared . Joshua Egbuna , a Lake Ridge High School senior , said the supportive atmosphere is what made it all worthwhile .
“ Signing Day is a big day for not just me , but my teammates and everyone at my school ,” said the University of Texas football commit . “ I feel
like we all worked really hard for this opportunity , so this is a day to celebrate everything we ’ ve worked for over the last four years .”
Although the student-athletes were the guests of honor , it was a big day for Mansfield ISD coaches as well .
Their mission is to promote excellence and build leaders with integrity and confidence through competition . Signing Day is one of the times they really get to see that mission become fulfilled .
“ As coaches , our number one goal is to make them be better young people ,” said Tammy Lusinger , MISD athletics director . “ To be able to see them realize their dream of signing that letter of intent to play in college is special . We hope that sets them on to reach bigger and better things .”
Students from MISD ’ s five traditional high schools — Lake Ridge High School , Legacy High School , Mansfield High School , Summit High School and Timberview High School — participated in the district signing day ceremony . Early signing days were held in November and December , and more letters of intent will be signed in April .
