Mansfield ISD Organizations Compete at the State Level
T
here is an organization for just about every student at Mansfield ISD. Although some of the clubs and organizations are
recreational, others are competitive, and MISD students are continuing to excel at those competitive events.
Academic Decathlon
Students on the Summit High School and Lake Ridge
High School Academic Decathlon teams earned the
points needed to advance to one of the most rigorous
academic competitions in Texas.
Academic Decathlon allows students of all achievement
levels to work together to compete in multiple subject
matters and earn medals for their high scores.
Summit High School finished third in state in the 5A
division. It was the eighth consecutive year for the team
to advance to state.
Robotics
Four robotics teams from Rogene Worley Middle School
are headed to the state contest, which is hosted by the
Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA).
The Worley Robo Tigers teams, totaling 21 students, had
to place first or second in the area contest to qualify.

There are two main categories at the April 7 competition:
arena and invention.
TCEA states that robotics helps students cultivate their
science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)
skills. It also develops critical thinking, creativity and
collaboration.
DECA
After top performances at the regional level, 33 students
in Mansfield ISD’s DECA club will be advancing to the
state competition.
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs
in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. At
competition, students complete a written component and
an interactive component, which are judged by industry
professionals.
The young professionals competed with more than 1,500
students from around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to
qualify for the state round. MISD is home to more than 100
DECA members who represent six district high schools.
Business Professionals of America
Nine Mansfield ISD students competed in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) regional competition, and all
nine of them qualified for the state round.
BPA is an organization for students pursuing careers in business management, information technology, finance, office
administration and other related career fields.
At regionals, the students won a total of 18 awards. They are now preparing for the State Leadership Conference in
Corpus Christi.
Culinary Arts
High school students in the culinary program at Ben
Barber Innovation Academy (BBIA) tasted success at the
regional competition and will now display their cooking
skills at the state level.
One five-member team from BBIA won first place in
restaurant management at the Texas ProStart invitational.
The other earned second place in culinary arts.
Texas ProStart prepares students for careers in the
restaurant and food service industry. Thousands of
students from more than 240 high schools participate in
the program each year.
German Club
Twenty-nine MISD students will be advancing to the
Texas State German Contest.
First through fifth place winners at the state competition
in San Marcos will be awarded scholarships. Categories
of competition include speaking, drama, music, language
mechanics, visual arts and more.
More than 1,500 students from across the state compete
in the state contest and its three regional contests each
year. This makes the Texas system of German contests
the largest in the nation.
