Congratulations to the MISD UIL
Academic Winners
M
ore than 900 students participated in the competitive
Mansfield ISD 2016 UIL Academic Tournament. MISD
elementary, intermediate, and middle school teams competed
in several categories that tested their reading, writing, science,
math, art, history, creative, and research skills.
In the elementary category, Elizabeth Smith Elementary
School clenched first place for the second year in a row. Carol
Holt Elementary came in second place, followed by Cora
Spencer Elementary.
The Elizabeth Smith Elementary School team are
all smiles to win the championship trophy again.
Asa Low Intermediate School came out on top for the
intermediate category. Cross Timbers Intermediate was second, and Donna Shepard Intermediate
placed third.
The Danny Jones Middle School team was the champion in the middle school category. Linda Jobe Middle
came in second place. Brooks Wester and Rogene Worley middle schools tied for third place.

Legacy High JROTC Earns Repeat Chance to Compete in Army Nationals
F
or the second straight year, the Legacy
High School JROTC Armed Drill team
will be competing against the best army
drill teams in the nation.
The Bronco Battalion march in formation at the Army Cadet Command
5th Brigade Championship.
The Bronco Battalion has clenched a
spot in the 2016 Army Nationals Drill
Championship. The team advanced to
the national competition after winning
fifth place overall in the Army Cadet
Command 5th Brigade Championship in
San Antonio, Texas.
The Army Nationals Drill Championship
takes place on April 9 in Louisville, Kentucky. Last year, the Legacy High team finished in fifth place.
The first three army finishers in the national competition will earn a seed at the All-Service Nationals Drill
Championship in Florida.
