How Vision 2030 prepares students for life after graduation

One of the most asked questions a child hears is , “ What do you want to be when you grow up ?” Answers vary from a police officer to a ballerina , a doctor , a lawyer , a mechanic , a chef , an inventor , a Marine , an astronaut and the

ever popular YouTuber . In a 21st Century world , the options seem endless .
We want to equip every MISD student to follow whichever path they choose , whether that means college , starting a career , or joining the military .
Enter Vision 2030 .
“ Vision 2030 provides a laser focus on ensuring that every student graduates college , career , and life ready ,” said Superintendent Dr . Kimberley Cantu . “ Everything we do from pre-k through senior year is working toward this goal . We want MISD graduates to be fully prepared for their next step , whatever that next step may be .”
These guiding statements can be found as early as Pre-k as our youngest learners build their foundational literacy skills . Meeting each student where they are , the intentional literacy and math focus in Vision 2030 is designed to ensure that our students have the foundational skills to be college , career and life ready . Students understand the power of choosing an individual pathway that aligns with their goals .
“ Ben Barber and Frontier STEM allow me to focus on the more practical side of life while also preparing me with problem solving skills and critical thinking ,” said
Nathan Ninh , a Frontier STEM Academy student who plans to become an accountant one day .
Nathan ’ s path will require him to attend a four-year university after graduation , and as he said , his campuses are equipping him to be successful on day one .
Vision 2030 is driven by four guiding statements :
1 .
Students will read on level or higher by the beginning of the third
grade and will remain on level or higher as an MISD student .
2 .
Students will demonstrate mastery of Algebra II by the end of
eleventh grade .
3 .
Students will graduate life ready .
4 .
Students will graduate college and / or career ready .
Layla Austin has her sights set on a different work environment .
“ I want to be an actress ,” said Austin , who attends Danny Jones Middle School . “ Theater classes are really helping because they teach me body language , facial expressions , and projection . It ’ s really helpful to get started now . I love how diverse it is here . Everyone is different in their own way .”
Diversity is a driving force behind Vision 2030 .

“ We know not every student will attend a four-year university after graduation , and that ’ s okay ,” said MISD Board President Courtney Lackey Wilson . “ We need welders and chefs and mechanics . We need students to join the armed forces . And we know that we have students sitting in our classrooms right now who will go on to work in these areas , which is why we have programs
