MISD STUDENTS RANK AMONG TOP 1 % OF PSAT SCORES

Three Mansfield ISD students have been named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program , an honor given to less than 1 % of high school students in the country .

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and college scholarships . Scholars earn the distinction of semifinalist based on their top scores on the Preliminary SAT / National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test ( PSAT / NMSQT ).
Congratulations to Nicolas Bindel from Mansfield High School , Hailey Chuong from Lake Ridge High School and Lawrence Wang from Mansfield High School .
Out of more than 1.6 million entrants nationwide , only 16,000 students are selected as semifinalists . In February ,
15,000 of those students will be named finalists . About half of those finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship worth thousands of dollars .
Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school , be endorsed and recommended by a high school official , write an essay , and earn SAT scores that confirm the student ’ s earlier performance on the qualifying test .

honor scholastically talented American youth and to encourage them to develop their abilities to the fullest .
The academically talented high school seniors are selected based on their skills , accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies , without regard to gender , race , ethnic origin or religious preference .

Mansfield ISD elementary teacher

A has been selected to represent the North Central Texas region in this year ’ s state Teacher of the Year competition .

Hadley Brown , a first grade teacher at Roberta Tipps STEAM Academy who is now a reading specialist at the school , was named the 2021 Region 11 Elementary Teacher of the Year during an awards ceremony on Aug . 5 .
The ceremony recognized all of the teachers of the year from school districts in the North Central Texas region . A total of 71 teachers , representing 39 school districts in Region 11 , participated in this year ’ s competition .
Brown was named MISD ’ s teacher of the year in May . She is an MISD alumna in her sixth year of education who firmly believes that positive change starts with children .
District winners who competed for the regional award were required to submit their resumes describing their educational history and professional development . In addition , they were asked to write their own professional biography as well as five lengthy essays about different aspects of education .
The Teacher of the Year Program is sponsored by the Texas Association of School Administrators . Judges meet in August each year to narrow the pool of 40 Regional Teachers of the Year to six finalists — three elementary and three secondary .
The finalists are interviewed later in the fall by a panel of judges who then select the Texas Elementary and Texas Secondary Teachers of the Year .
