FREE MEALS FOR ALL MISD STUDENTS FOR 2021-22
MISD Student Nutrition Services focuses on serving nutritious and delicious meals .
Free meals for all Mansfield
ISD students will continue for the 2021-22 school year .
Every MISD student is eligible for one free breakfast meal and one free lunch meal every school day through May 26 , the last day of school .
Learners at all Mansfield ISD campuses can access their free meals in the cafeteria serving lines as usual during their designated meal periods . Second meals , additional entrees , sides and snacks will also be available for purchase .
The free meals are federally funded and are being made possible due to waivers placed by the U . S . Department of Agriculture ( USDA ) to ensure all children have access to nutritious food . Families that might qualify for the Free and Reduced Price School Meals program are still encouraged to submit an application for the 2021-22 school year because it provides valuable benefits and services to children .
MISD ’ s Student Nutrition Services has served more the 1 million free meals to the community since March 2020 .
The staff focuses on serving safe , nutritious and quality meals while encouraging students to develop lifelong skills and knowledge to make healthy food choices .
MISD HOSTS WONDERFALL FEST
Mansfield ISD celebrated all things fall and fun with its first-ever WonderFALL Fest .
The free outdoor community carnival for all ages was held on Saturday , Oct . 23 from 10 a . m . to 1 p . m . at the Dr . Jim Vaszauskas Center for the Performing Arts .
The festival kicked off with an elementary school Scarecrow Parade at 10 a . m . Guests were then welcome to visit all the family-fun activities the day had to offer , including fall-themed carnival games , armadillo races , bounce houses , food trucks , face painting , student performances , pictures with Cinderella at her pumpkin carriage and even a pumpkin-crushing dragon .
“ Our goal is to bring the community together throughout the year in creative ways that are fun and family friendly ,” said Flo Torres , director of the MISD Center . “ We have our Toys for Tots event coming up in December to help bring smiles to the faces of children during the holidays . We also have our Multicultural Fest in the spring to celebrate the diversity within the district . This fall event was a way to get our students , families , employees and community members excited for fall while enjoying all the things that come with it .”
Integrated into the engaging activities were lessons for students to make learning fun . “ Literacy Lane ” was one of those learning attractions , in which students reviewed sight words , phonics and numbers while earning different prizes .
The Mansfield Fire Department was a special guest for the day ’ s festivities to teach about fire safety since October is National Fire Prevention Month .
After the scarecrow parade , families had their pick of fun activities to enjoy inside and outside the venue .
