Mansfield ISD Selected as
2017 Honor School Board
T
he 2016-17 Mansfield ISD Board of Trustees was one of five school boards from across the state to be selected as
an Honor School Board.
The award is part of the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) School Board Awards program. Each
year, the program recognizes outstanding Texas school boards for commitment and service that has made a positive
impact on Texas public school students.
School boards are nominated by their superintendent for the prestigious award. Honor Boards are then selected by a
committee of Texas superintendents.
“Our board members, who are elected at large, bring diverse perspectives, but they always focus on what is in the best
interest of all students,” said MISD Superintendent Dr. Jim Vaszauskas. “For them, good is not good enough because
whatever is done affects our students. They have high expectations of themselves, of staff, and of students, and
everyone strives to live up to those expectations.”
The selection committee’s decisions were based on specific criteria, including support for educational performance,
support for educational improvement projects, commitment to a code of ethics and maintenance of harmonious and
supportive relationships among board members.
“The Mansfield ISD board has made a commitment to continuous improvement, and the district’s students are
experiencing excellence as a result,” said Dr. Michael McFarland, who chaired the selection committee. “Board
members have made student achievement a priority through their actions, and for that, we are proud to announce that
the Mansfield ISD Board of Trustees is one of the five Texas Honor Boards for 2017.”
Since 1971, the TASA School Board Awards program has honored Texas school district boards of trustees that have
demonstrated dedication to student achievement and that put students first.
