Your second book is titled, "Wyetta's Recess
Adventures." You know at school we all
looked forward to the ringing of the bell
especially when it signaled recess, lunch or
dismissal. Not ashamed to admit it lol. I take it
this annafè little girl Wyetta, felt the same
about recess?
Lol. I attended the Methodist Primary School
and I had some of my most memorable
childho od experiences on the school grounds.
The memories were so grand and vivid that I
just couldn’t help but write about them.
I can hardly wait to find out what these recess
adventures were. Tell us about your next
book. What will it be about?
I plan to publish and release the books in pairs.
So the next pair is, "Wyetta The Carnival
Queen" and "Wyetta Visits Muh Seebo." One
book will look at one of Wyetta’s carnival
experiences, and the other will explore her
encounter with a mysterious character so
typical in St. Lucian culture and folklore, gajé
lady, Muh Seebo.
LOL. Looking forward to reading them
especially Muh Seeboo. There's always a tinge
of apprehension putting ourselves and work
out there, was this the case for you?
I wrote my stories from my vivid memories of
my own childhood experiences growing up in
the '70s. At times, though, I wondered if St.
Lucia had changed so much since I left, that
today’s children would not be able to identify
with those experiences. To my surprise and
excitement, when I did readings of my stories
at various primary schools during Jounen
Kwéyòl 2017, the children were totally
captivated and recognized all the
experiences and story elements immediately.
