FOR SAINT LUCIA'S
38TH ANNIVERSARY
OF INDEPENDENCE
MOTHER HELEN
BY KENNIA
EDOLE
It was the Caribs.
It was the Arawaks.
It was the British.
It was the French.
It was ash to ash and still they rose with the wind.
It was brick by brick
And still they built and birthed a new nation of freedom.
Yet, each of us are cells of thy flesh, thy blood and bone.
It's under the proud eye's of our ancestors we are here today.
The very first and only drive-thru volcano in the world.
Two beautiful twin mountains known as the Pitons.
A majestic flag,
Yellow for the golden sun,
Blue for our sea and sky,
And black and white for the harmony of our people.
Together,
We are the land.
We are the people.
We are the light.
We are children of a women called Helen.
