Manly Golf Club - Membership Category Review | Page 15

The analysis completed on adopting a “ 1 category structure ”, illustrated that this would also be an untenable outcome due to the very real down side of significant attrition when only 33 % of the total could play on a day where all are eligible .
In regards to adopting a “ 5 , 6 & 7 ” day structure it was envisaged that membership numbers would decline as they seek alternatives for more secure regular bookings , and that in the market place Manly ’ s newly found premium attraction would decline , ultimately this would directly reduce revenue .
Membership Review
Following the review of our Membership offers we suggest retaining the historical spousal membership , and investigate ways to increase the new social membership , principally aimed at associated golfing spouses , again adding depth to the club culture and camaraderie .
In regards to the Non-Playing category we are happy with the current demographic of member entering this category , and further level of comfort exists that as we draw closer to a “ full house ”, we will have a pool of members to draw from , who may wish to return to a playing category . Further , any upward pressure on playing enquiry could be addressed by re-opening a “ provisional ” membership status as was the case during the last period where membership was full , being in the 70 , 80 ’ s and early 90 ’ s .
In regards the potential for growth of 7 Day lady members , it is noted that 5 Day ladies are also able to play in the main Tuesday competition , and pay a lower fee . Whilst this was seen as inequitable ( today ) it was not seen as anything more than a structural anomaly , bearing in mind that prior to the associate term being removed , ladies weren ’ t able to play on a Saturday at all , thus the Tuesday was the main competition .
In acknowledging that growing the number of lady golfers was a critical task , the Board has seen this and also the imbalance between the playing days of 5 Day genders as one we should live with . Inequitable as it may seem , there were no alternative solutions that didn ’ t otherwise have unintended consequences .
Playing Review
The existence of set bookings for a 9 hole competition on Fridays , a day experiencing pressure on tee times , occupying times to the exclusion of those wishing to play 18 holes , was seen as not equitable or efficient use of daylight hours . The Friday competition sheet will be closely monitored over the course of the year to determine any changes required .
It is proposed to trial changes to the number of 9 hole competitions , and their scheduling , adopting a limited number of competition tee times on a Saturday ( post field ) PM , with a view to phasing this in between September to November 2016 . Similarly these competitions will be closely monitored for any anomalies . www . manlygolf . com . au 13
