LONDON BRIDGE STATION REOPENED TO START THE
NEW YEAR AS REDEVELOPMENT NEARS COMPLETION
The £1 Billion project to upgrade and improve the infrastructure in and around the capital's oldest station is nearing final completion. The modernised London Bridge Station opened just after the New Year as the new concourse gave access to all 15 platforms - accessible for the first time. This follows five years of work by Network Rail which saw an additional five platforms and nearly a complete overhaul of the station. Commuters are sure to be delighted by the completion after several years of construction that included a major reworking of the track layout that occasionally caused train service disruptions.
The station, which originally opened almost two centuries ago in 1836, had been rebuilt a few times previously, but needed a much deserved upgrade to serve the demands of today and the future. The Station had over 50 million passengers pass through it in any given year, but that figure will rise to 96 million per year with the redevelopment. The station redevelopment is part of the Thameslink Programme.
Full completion is expected in the coming months as work continues on the concourse. New retail units will begin popping up as well to serve passengers heading through the station.
Mane is happy to have been a part of the project. Much of the signage that will be seen at the station has been / will be fitted by our contractors. Thank you for the hard work to all those involved!
