BENEFITS OF CP6

The four main focuses for CP6 set out by Network Rail are Safety, Reliability, Efficiency and Growth.

Safety:

Passenger Safety – reduce the risk of a train accident by a further 10%

Reduce trespass on the railways and prevent suicides

Improve the way we maintain and manager infrastructure and take further steps to reduce risk to the public at our level crossings by 13%

Improve our Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) measure by 54%

Increase work on mental health and resilience by 25%

Reliability:

Reduce the number of incidents that cause disruption

Improve the accuracy of timetables

Improve operational processes so that service recovery from incidents is rapid

Improve the accuracy of train running data to help problem solve and improve the information we give passengers during disruption

Efficiency:

Using intelligent infrastructure – to predict and prevent problems and better target our maintenance and renewals work

Stabilising the work plan – making it easier for Network Rail and the supply chain to plan and deliver work efficiently

Better every day – this uses good ideas from their 41,000 strong workforce to drive efficiency within the organisation

Making the best use of access – optimise the way we work when having access to the railways

Improved contracting strategies – working with our supply chain to become an industry client of choice

Making our national functions more efficient – delivering savings through IT transformation, increased commercialisation of business services and improved supply chain operations

Growth:

Enable third parties to carry out work on the railway directly

Make third party funding easier to achieve

Making it easier for third parties to compete for work

Attract and reward third party finance and delivery
