ccording to Google, ‘Product’ is an article or substance that is manufactured or refined for sale. If we use this definition

and apply it to the area of Product within technology, it stands up pretty well in most, but not in all cases.

Product Management has been a job title for many years, but more recently it has seen a sharp increase in popularity, with Product Analysts, Owners and Directors becoming important parts of any innovative company’s fabric.

Product roles often encompass Business Analysis, Project Management and Technical Authority disciplines, but also include the need to have worked and understand a particular company’s Product vision or purpose.

A pretty simple example of Product definition can be found in the retail banking domain, where products would be Overdrafts, Current Accounts, Creditcards, Mortgages etc.

Product Managers would need to understand each ‘sales vehicle’ in all its guises and work with the business & technical teams to ensure the product definition roadmap is adhered to.

At Mane, we work not only with the people who create and work with great Product, but also the technologists who underpin the whole operation and ensure our clients maintain a competitive edge.
